POIESIS III

Synthesis

(Work in progress)

The third part of the Poeisis series was intended to act as a kind of synthesis, an end to the series with a neat trilogy, tidying up the geometry.

But the flow was interrupted... an alternative title to the series could be : BC / AC ?, Before Covid / After Covid (?)…

Looking back at the series, I now see it more as anti-thesis than synthesis.

Not only because it questions the platonic enquiry of the two previous series but also because it challenges certain concepts of normal when faced with a world out of synch.

The messages - signs and symbols – found on glass (on Poeisis I) and on walls (on Poeisis II) confirmed this anti thesis and set the approach to this third series - free from well-defined parameters and from rigid choices – a welcome expansion of the urban vocabulary available for translation.

The route of the series could be described as flowing from a singular beautiful body to all beautiful bodies, from the beautiful soul to the love of wisdom and finally to the nature of the beautiful itself by comprehending the idea of the beautiful as ever existent, neither coming into being nor passing out of being, hence beyond the world of change and becoming.

But this is no nihilistic approach, it’s rather an acceptance of the absurd as the conflict between the human desire for meaning and the world’s lack thereof. As Albert Camus stated in The myth of Sisyphus: “The absurd is lucid reason noting its limits”.
